Laos posts a new record of 1,062 new Covid-19 cases

Over the past 24 hours, Laos has confirmed 1,062 new Covid-19 infections, the highest daily infections ever recorded since the first transmission was detected in the country in late March 2020.

The new infections have brought the total to 42,891 including 7,864 active cases, and 73 deaths with three new deaths reported over the previous 24 hours, according to the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

Deputy Director General of the National Centre for Laboratory and Epidemiology, Ministry of Health, Dr Buaphanh Khamphaphongphan told a press conference today that the newly recorded infections were detected among 6,602 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday. The day also witnessed 384 patients discharged from hospital.

Of the new cases, 1,053 were classified as domestic infections and nine as imported transmissions. The imported cases were reported in Xayaboury five and Vientiane three and Champassak one. Meanwhile most of the domestic infections were recorded in Vientiane 517, Luang Namtha 134, Luang Prabang 122, Vientiane (province) 100, Bokeo 53, Champassak 26, Oudomxay 24, Khammuan and Savannakhet 20 each, Xekong 18, Xaysomboun 13, Saravan five and Xieng Khuang one.
