Laos has confirmed 1,049 new Covid-19 cases and three new fatalities attributed to Covid-19 over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 48,891 including 9,348 active cases and 89 deaths, the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control reported today.

The newly reported deaths included two documented in Vientiane and one in Luang Prabang, according to the Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh.

He told a press conference today that of the new infections, detected among over 7,000 people nationwide, 1,045 were classified as domestic infections with 512 reported in Vientiane, 137 in Luang Prabang, 86 in Vientiane (province), 81 in Bokeo, and 44 each in Luang Namtha and Champassak.

Meanwhile, 31 domestic cases were recorded in Phongsaly, 25 in Borikhamxay, 21 in Xekong, 19 in Savannakhet, 16 in Khammuan, and 14 in Oudomxay.

Xayaboury and Xaysomboun reported 12 and three domestic transmissions, respectively.

The imported cases were detected in Champassak and Savannakhet, two each.
