Laos records 195 new cases of Covid-19 infection, one death

The past 24 hours have witnessed 195 new cases of Covid-19 including 149 imported from neighbouring countries and 46 local transmissions, and one new death attributed to the virus, according to the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

The latest casualty was identified as a 35-years-old man in Ban Nomor, Xayphouthong district, Savannakhet Province. The prisoner was tested for Covid-19 on Aug 23 and died on Aug 24, one day before he was confirmed positive to the virus.

“Forty-six local infections have been detected including 14 in Vientiane, 15 in Bokeo, nine in Savannakhet, three in Luang Prabang, two in Savannakhet, two in Xayaboury, and one in Oudomxay,” Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control Rattanxay Phetsouvanh told a press conference today.

Champassak shared the largest number of imported cases with 46, followed by Vientiane 38, Savannakhet 32, Saravan 15, Khammuan 12, Borikhamxay 4 and Luang Prabang 2.

Covid-19 cases has reached 14,104 including 5,885 active cases and 12 deaths since the first case was reported in late March 2020.
