Laos records 770 new Covid-19 cases, three new deaths

Laos has logged 770 new Covid-19 cases, the highest number in months, over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 37,018 including 6,909 active cases and 56 deaths, according to the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

The new number of daily infections is the second highest with the first one reported in Aug 25 when 952 people were diagnosed with Covid-19.

Of the new confirmed cases, 766 were classified as domestic infections and four as imported cases.

Three new deaths were reported over the past hours with one each detected in Saravan, Vientiane and Vientiane (province).

The domestic infections were recorded in Vientiane 337, Luang Prabang 160, Luang Namtha 47, Vientiane (province) 135, Bokeo 41, Saravan 25, Oudomxay 23, Champassak 20, Khammuan nine, Borikhamxay eight, Savannakhet and Luang Namtha three each, and Xaysomboun and Xekong one each.

The imported cases were recorded in Xayaboury two and Savannakhet and Vientiane one each.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay told a press conference today that yesterday witnessed 6,109 people tested for Covid-19 and 497 patients discharged from hospital.
