Laos, San Marino Establish Diplomatic Ties

(KPL) Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR Saleumxay Kommasith has signed a joint statement with San Marino Minister for Foreign and Political Affairs Nicola Renzi announcing the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The signing took place on September 28, 2018 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the United States of America.

San Marino is the 141st country that the Lao PDR has established diplomatic ties with out 193 member states in the United Nations.

San Marino became a member of the United Nations on March 2, 1992. It is the third smallest country in Europe, landlocked and surrounded by Italy.

The republic has an area of 61.2 sq km with a population of 33,779 people with 97% belonging to Catholic.

Its official language is Italian and its capital city is San Marino.

San Marino gained independence from the Roman Empire on September 3, 301. The country is not a member of the European Union but uses Euros.
