Lao PDR is preparing to hold a celebration of Khaen music as a UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage in Vientiane on Apr 11.
To celebrate this new landmark for the nation and Lao people living in the country and abroad, the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism will hold a celebration for Khaen music for being inscribed as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Bosengkham Vongdara told a press conference in Vientiane on Mar 2.
The celebration of Khaen music will commence in the morning of Apr 11 featuring historical parades of Chao Fa Ngum’s statue, Monument of Unknown Soldiers, and late President Kaysone Phomvihane’s statue along main roads in Vientiane.
Baskets of flowers will be placed at well-known landmarks along the roads.
Khaen fluting shows will be performed by female and male Khaen players.
The celebration is also expected to be joined by invited guests, local and foreign visitors.
The fact that the Khaen music of the Lao people has been inscribed as a world heritage makes the Lao multi ethnic people and the world community realize the right and clear policy of the Party and government on the protection and conservation of national heritage and makes the Lao people eager to take part in protecting their cultural, historical and natural heritage, said Minister Bosengkham.
