People’s representatives at their ongoing 2nd Ordinary Session yesterday approved amendments to the Law on the National Assembly (NA) and the Law on Provincial People’s Councils.
The amended drafts of the laws were presented by Mr Phongsanae Ngutitham who is in charge of the amendments of the two laws.
Last year already witnessed the amendment to the Law on the National Assembly and the approval of the Law on the Provincial People’s Councils at the 10th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 7th Legislature.
The amended Law on the National Assembly has 9 parts, 17 chapters, and 104 articles, while the revised Law on the Provincial People’s Councils consists of 9 parts, 16 chapters and 99 articles.
Mr Phongsane said that the amended laws would ensure that members of the National Assembly, its standing committee, organizations under the National Assembly, and those of its standing committee, members of Provincial People’s Councils and standing committees of the Provincial People’s Councils understand their roles, rights and duties which are stated in the laws in a more explicit manner, and are more accountable to their rights and political duties as representatives of the rights and interests of their people.
