Leaders Receive National Day Greetings from Diplomats, Representatives of Int’l Organisations

President Bounnhang Vorachit, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, Vice President Phankham Viphavanh, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith received at Presidential Palace on Friday a courtesy visit from foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations on the occasion of the 42nd founding anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and international New Year 2018.

Dean of the diplomatic corps John Owen Williams, Ambassador of Australia to the Lao PDR, representing diplomatic officials and representatives of international organizations in Laos extended warm greetings to the Party and government leaders of the Lao PDR and appreciated the achievements the Lao PDR has recorded over four decades of national protection and development.

His welcome speech, President Bounnhang Vorachit told the visiting guests that 2017 is another landmark in the history of Lao PDR and is the second year for the implementation of the resolution of the 10th National Congress of the Party and the 8th 5-year socio-economic development plan of the government and constitutes an important year for ASEAN community and the Lao PDR as 2017 marks the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the 20th anniversary of Laos’ accession to the regional bloc.

President expressed on behalf of the Party, government and people of the Lao PDR sincere gratitude to friendly countries and international organizations for their support and assistance to the Lao PDR to promote the implementation of its national development cause over the past years.

On the occasion, President Bounnhang Vorachit invited diplomats and representatives of international organizations in Laos as well as their relatives and friends to visit Laos to experience cultural identity, fine traditions and scenic natural landscapes in the Lao PDR as 2018 has been designated as Visit Laos Year.
