The government has extended lockdown measures against Covid-19 for another 15 days, from Jun 5-19 with some restrictions relaxed in Vientiane and other Covid-hit provinces.
At a press conference in Vientiane on Jun 4, Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Thipphakone Chanthavongsa attributed the lockdown extension to government’s intent to bring community transmissions of Covid-19 under control, minimize the number of patients and that of related deaths and ensure everyone in the society restore their normal life under New Normal conditions as soon as possible.
Bars, food courts, karaoke bars, entertainment venues, snooker halls, massage parlours, beauty parlours, spas, tourist sites, games shops will remain closed over the next two weeks.
Indoor sport centres, contact sports such as football, boxing are banned. No teaching and learning activities at educational institutes of all levels is allowed in Vientiane.
Processing factories and handicraft production businesses in red zone areas will remain closed, except those factories with dormitories on their premises and those producing consumer’s goods, medicines, protective equipment and other medical equipment and as long as the prevention measures of the Taskforce Committee are strictly observed.
Individuals are prohibited from entering or exiting red zones or yellow zones unless authorized by relevant local authorities for necessary reasons including for project activities, agricultural farming, goods transport and food delivery, seeing doctors, receiving vaccines.
Any gatherings or activities with more than 50 participants that fail to observe social distancing of at least 1 metre are prohibited along with festive parties.
Preventive measures including temperature screening, social distancing of 1 metre, masking, frequent hand washing with soap and hand gels must be tightened at minimarts, supermarkets, markets and risk areas.
