Manila: Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II ordered all LTO offices to boost traffic safety through frequent and random anti-overloading operations.
In a statement Thursday, Mendoza said operations should be intensified against trucks as well as public utility vehicles, not only in Metro Manila and urban areas but also in provinces.
‘Patuloy naman ang implementation nito subalit lalo pa nating pai-igtingin ito dahil nakakagawa ng mga paraan ang ilang motorista para iwasan ito. Hindi na ito uubra ngayon (We’ve been implementing this continuously but we will further intensify operations because some motorists are finding ways to get around it. This wouldn’t do anymore),’ he said.
To ensure compliance, he ordered all LTO regional directors to submit regular reports of their operations in their respective areas of responsibility.
On Wednesday, he led an anti-overloading operation in Quezon City that flagged down 45 vehicles along Tandang Sora Avenue and C5 by joint per
sonnel of the LTO and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Of the vehicles flagged down, 13 were found to be overloaded and were issued with citation tickets.
