Mini Marathon Held to Mark 2nd Anniversary of Hongsa Power’s Thermal Power Plant

Over 700 officials and people in Hongsa district took part in a mini marathon to mark the 2nd anniversary of the commercial operation of the lignite-fired thermal power plant of the Hongsa Power Company Limited, and the World AIDS Day.

The mini marathon was held at the Hongsa Power Company last Saturday. It was attended by Vice Governor of Xayaboury Province Yanyong Sipaseuth.

The construction of the plant began in October 2010 and its commercial operation was commenced in 2016.

Hongsa mine mouth power project is the first and biggest lignite-fired power plant in the Lao PDR.

The Lao government has set an ambitious plan to have 7,000 MW generated by power projects across the country by 2020.

As for the World AIDS Day (Dec 1), the mini marathon aimed to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourn those who have died of the disease.

The mini marathon also aimed to raise fund for Hongsa and Ngeun district hospitals in the province.
