MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) deployed its new mobile command center (MCC) equipped with advanced communications systems to help monitor and secure President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA).
During the unveiling and blessing ceremony of the MCC in Quezon City on Monday, MMDA Acting Chair Don Artes said the MCC would help in enforcing traffic management plans and monitoring important events and emergencies.
The MCC is equipped with a portable command and dispatch system, a multimode radio, as well as advanced monitoring equipment such as remote CCTV and drone capabilities.
Artes thanked Globe Telecom Inc. (Globe) for donating the MCC to the MMDA.
‘The donated facility is in line with the agency’s continuous pursuit of enhancing traffic management and public safety capabilities and promoting resilience in the face of natural disasters,’ he said.
The MCC, he said, is linked with the MMDA’s Communications and Command Center and can be used durin
g times of disaster and road emergencies, aside from monitoring similar events such as the SONA.
‘Merong satellite internet service ang aming MCC. Sakaling ipag-utos ni Pangulong Marcos na ipadala ito sa probinsya, pwede itong dalhin at gamitin bilang mobile incident command post (The MCC has satellite internet service. If President Marcos were to order it dispatched to the provinces, it could be brought there and used as a mobile incident command post),’ he said.
Other features of the MCC include a surveillance system with eight deployable cameras that can be monitored through a video wall.
The MCC was unveiled and blessed during a ceremony along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, near the Batasang Pambansa where Marcos is set to deliver his 3rd SONA.
The donation allows the MMDA to be an ‘invaluable ally’ in its efforts to increase its capacity and improve service delivery, Globe senior director Robert Aquino said in the same event.
‘Our company’s vision is a Philippines where families’ dreams come tr
ue, businesses flourish, and the nation is admired. We are grateful for the able leadership of Chairman Artes and his dedicated staff for giving us the necessary support to bring this vision to fruition,’ Aquino said.
