The Ministry of Education and Sports and the Australian Embassy in Laos have approved an annual plan on human resource development activities that will be implemented by the Laos-Australia Institute (LAI).
The annual meeting of the Steering Committee for LAI was held last week in Vientiane and was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Kongsy Sengmany, Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian Embassy Mr Andreas Zurbrugg, and relevant officials.
The activities included the awarding of approximately 30 Australia Awards Scholarships, 70 Laos Australia National Scholarships (LANS), a redesign of the LANS scheme, new courses in human resource management, training and assessment.
Over 410 students have been able to study under the LANS programme at the National University of Laos and Souphanouvong University over the past five years.
Graduate students are from disadvantaged districts in the northern provinces of Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha, Oudomxay, Huaphan and Xieng Khuang.
The LANS program focuses on talented students from remote communities and disadvantaged backgrounds. Australia is helping to ensure that Laos is able to tap into the full potential of its vibrant, young population.
Australian Scholarship 2017 application forms will be available through March 24. Digital versions can be downloaded at: http://www.australiaawardslaos.org/ or you can call: 021 265 722.
