More than 200 photos exhibited for public at Vientiane Center

A photo exhibition themed “The Art of Light: Lao Contemporary Photography Exhibition (LCPE)” was launched on Dec 16 at Vientiane Center, Vientiane to promote Lao contemporary photography.

The exhibition is open to the public for free from Dec 17-22.

The exhibition showcases more than 200 photos of almost 50 accomplished artists including Ka Xiong, Van Hai, Bounpaul Phothyzan, Phoonsab Thevongsa, Phonesavanh Saengphachan, Phanumad Disattha, Souliphone Davis (Phonny), who portray people and nature, and express their deep down feelings through photography and painting.

“I am honored to create and curate the exhibition. As a photographer, I have always agreed with Tagore and his words: We live in the world when we love it. I believe photographers need the ‘ability to be touched continuously’: we see society, we see people, and we see the details in life; and we will have reactions, we will be touched and we will feel love. This is where we embark on a new journey to create more works,” Mr Alan Liu, founder and curator of LCPE, said at the opening ceremony.

“A good photo is like a mirror where the viewer sees the photographer and the world in his eyes, while the photographer also hopes to mark the final part of his creation with the experience of the photo viewing,” said Mr Alan Liu,

During the opening ceremony, five young Lao photographers were announced as winners of prizes worth about 30 million kip from sponsors “The Art of Light: Lao Contemporary Photo Contest”.

The exhibition was jointly presented by Vientiane Center, Vivo Laos, and Hope Vision Photography, partnering with companies such as Zhenghong Construction, Lao Ford City, Lao Telecom, 36 Manor, Khounta Sign, The Freelance, LINES Magazine, LC Friendship Translation Service Individual Enterprise, Sky-surfing Commercial Travel Agent, Comma Coffee, OK Sewing Accessories, Vientiane Vision, CineArt Film.
