The Nam Theun 2 Power Company Limited has committed one billion kip to relief and recovery efforts in the flood hit provinces of Khammuan, Savannakhet, Saravan, Xekong, Attapeu and Champassak.
The flooding caused by storms between late August and early September is the worst for the six central and southern provinces since 1978.
We all stand with the people of the Lao PDR affected by the floods, said Jean-Philippe Buisson, Chairman of the company. NTPC has been deeply concerned by the damages caused by those exceptional flooding and did not hesitate to participate in the recovery efforts.
NTPC commitment includes a one-billion-kip donation to the National Disaster Management Office of the Lao PDR, of which half will be dedicated to Khammuan province, where the company is based. In line with its core values and its historical solidarity with the Lao PDR, NTPC will participate, through this contribution, in recovery and rebuilding efforts, as well as the provision of supplies and material needs of those in affected areas.
Dedicated to the preservation of its region and the wellbeing of its inhabitants, NTPC is naturally prepared to support the host province and all the regions impacted by the exceptional floods, said Olivier DIDRY, CEO of NTPC. We hope our contribution will help communities to recover from those exceptional floods and support the emergency response as well as the longer-term recovery process.
