Over 1.27 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine arrive in Laos

Over 1.27 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine donated through COVAX Facility by France, Japan, Greek and the Netherlands arrived in Vientiane yesterday.

COVAX Facility is a global effort between the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance Gavi, UNICEF, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The vaccine package included 192,000 doses of AstraZeneca from France, 320,200 doses of AstraZeneca from Japan, 320,400 doses of Johnson & Johnson from Greek, and 460,800 does of Johnson & Johnson from the Netherlands.

The vaccine delivery took place at Wattay International Airport and was welcome by Deputy Minister of Health Dr Phaivanh Keopaseuth, French Ambassador to Laos Siv-Leng Chhuor, Japanese Ambassador to Laos Kobayashi Kenichi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the European Union Delegation to the Lao PDR Vincent Vire, Honorary Consul of the Netherlands to the Lao PDR Ait Geurts, UNICEF Deputy Representative to the Lao PDR Beate Dastel, and Oyuntogos Lkhasuren, Technical Officer, Environmental Health, WHO Country Office for the Lao PDR, and representatives of relevant authorities.

The COVAX Facility has provided almost 4.3 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, enough for over 40% of population in the Lao PDR.
