Over 100 Million Kip Donated for Disaster Victims in Vietnam

Over LAK 100 million, approximately over US$ 13,000, has been announced donated as relief aid for the victims of tropical storm Damrey in south central provinces of Vietnam.

The donation package includes LAK 105 million from the Bank of the Lao PDR and LAK 5 million from the Party Central Committee’s Propaganda and Training Board.

The handover of the donation package took place on Dec 1 where Head of the Bank of the Lao PDR Office, Mr Phetsathaphone Keovongchit and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Propaganda and Training Board Office presented the package to Deputy Minister of Labour and Socio Welfare, Ms Baikham Khatthiya.

Addressing the event, Ms Baikham Khatthiya appreciated the donation by the Bank of the Lao PDR and the Propaganda and Training Board and assured the donors that the amount of money will be presented to the Vietnamese victims.

Several government organisations are also making donation for the Vietnamese disaster victims.

Damrey hit southern central Vietnam early last month leaving 45 people dead and 229 others injured in Khanh Hoa, destroyed hundreds of thousands of houses and 36,300ha of crops. the disaster also killed 370,000 heads of cattle and poultry, and washed away and damaged aquaculture facilities.

Total economic loss suffered by the province amounted to 14.7 trillion VND (646.8 million USD).
