Over 200 Kg Of Smuggled Wildlife Parts Burned

Rangers burned over 200 kg of smuggled wildlife animal parts seized from local markets in Xay and Lar districts, Oudomxay Province on Jul 5.

The burning of the smuggled animal parts took place in the presence of representatives from local authorities,the World Wilde Fund for Nature (WWF-Laos) and relevant officials.

The smuggled items included parts of wild boars, deer, barking deer, pangolins, civet cats, water monitors, squirrels, wild chickens, among others, according to an official.

The forest rangers also released live animals seized from smugglers back to forest in the Namkat Yor La Pa protected area in Oudomxay Province.

This anti wildlife trafficking activity will be expanded to Luang Namtha and Bokeo by the end of 2020, said Mr Thongphanh Ratanalangsy, Deputy Director, Department of Forest Inspection, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
