Over one million local people and foreign visitors converged in Siem Reap to view a great parade of Angkor Sangkranta B.E 2561 on Apr 15, 2018.
Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen officiated the Angkor Sangkranta festival celebrated in front of the Elephant Terrace, near Memorial 12 of the Old City.
Angkor Sankranta is a giant four-day festival celebrating Khmer New Year. From April 13 16, parades, concerts and exhibitions transformed the Angkor Archaeological Park into a hub of colourful and vibrant cultural activities. Organised by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, the events were open to locals and foreigners alike. The festival aimed to preserve art, culture, and traditions of the Khmer people.
This year marked the 6th edition of Angkor Sankranta. There was a blessing ceremony on April 12 in front of Angkor Wat to begin the festival’s programme of over 30 entertainment events.
Festivities, which were all free of charge, were officially opened by the Cambodian premier and his wife Bun Rany at a special ceremony on Apr 14.
