“Shopping centres, entrepreneurs and all schools should advise their personnel to take a good care of their health and make sure that they have installed hand washing facilities, observe good sneezing habits, and those working in veterinary fields should wear proper protective gears,” said Dr. Rattanaxay.

“They should ask their personnel to watch for risky signs of Covid-19 infection including fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. Anyone with the said symptoms must call the hotline 166 immediately to get advice on what they need to do,” said Dr. Rattanaxay.

WHO characterizes COVID-19 as a pandemic

Speaking at a press briefing on Mar 11, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said:

“WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.

Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly. It is a word that, if misused, can cause unreasonable fear, or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over, leading to unnecessary suffering and death.”

There are now more than 118,000 confirmed cases in 114 countries and regions, and 4,291 people have lost their lives. Yet the number of coronavirus cases, deaths, as well as affected countries is expected to climb even higher in the days and weeks ahead, according to Xinhua.
