(KPL) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on Nov 14 met with President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in on the sidelines of the 33rd ASEAN Summit in Singapore with both sides highly valuing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders noted that the relations and cooperation between the two countries have been strengthened significantly since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1995, especially through regular exchange of visits of senior officials of the two countries.
The Republic of Korea ranks the fifth largest foreign investor in the Lao PDR, following China, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. R. Korea also plays an important role in strengthening tourism industry in Laos with hundreds of thousands of Korean nationals visiting Laos annually.
Prime Minister Thongloun also expressed thanks to the government and people of the Republic of Korea for their assistance to the Lao PDR in various areas, especially their relief aid to the Lao people experiencing the deadly flooding caused by the collapse of the saddle dam D of the Xepian-Xe Namnoy hydropower project in Sanamxay district, Attapeu Province in late July.
On the occasion, President Moon Jae-in expressed his intent to continue to provide support to the Lao PDR especially for the Mekong river embankment, rehabilitation of basic infrastructure and development assistance in Sanamxay district, Attapeu Province.
The Korean President also expressed condolences to the government and people of the Lao PDR over the loss and damages caused by the collapse of the saddle dam D of the Xepian-Xe Namnoy hydropower project in Sanamxay district, Attapeu Province.
Both sides also exchanged points of view on regional and international issues of common interest.
