(KPL) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on March 29 received a courtesy call from visiting Norwegian Minister of International Development Dag-Inge Ulstein.
PM Thongloun expressed a warm welcome to the visiting minister and spoke highly of the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Norway, especially the assistance of the Norwegian government in priority sectors of the Lao PDR which has contributed to its efforts to achieve millennium development goals and graduation from the UN’s list of least developed countries by 2024.
The host also highlighted the assistance from the government and people of Norway for unexploded ordnance (UXO) removal and victim assistance efforts, hydropower development, trade and investment under the ASEAN-Norway framework.
Prime Minister asked the visiting minister to further provide support for UXO clearance, and encourage Norwegian business people, investors and visitors to do business, invest and visit Laos and continue to support human resources development of the Lao PDR.
In reply, the Norwegian minister expressed thanks for the warm welcome extended to him by Prime Minister Thongloun and noted the importance of the adoption of the Convention on Cluster Munitions in 2008 and expressed the willingness of the government of Norway to continue to support UXO removal efforts in the Lao PDR over years to come.
