Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith will leave Vientiane on Friday for the 8th ACMECS and 9thCLMV Summit in response to the invitation of Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chano-Cha and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen, who is also chairman of the 9th CLMV Summit.
Both regional events will be held between Jun 15-16.
The 8th Ayeyawady Chao Phraya Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) will be held under the theme Towards an Integrated and Connected Mekong Community to allow leaders to evaluate the cooperation among member countries and strategy designed to strengthen the cooperation and economic integration in the region and international community over the next four years.
Other ACMECS leaders namely Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, President of Myanmar Win Myint, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc are also scheduled to attend the 8th ACMECS Summit and related meetings to be held in Bangkok.
Prior to the ACMECS Summit, on 15 Jun 2018, ACMECS CEO Forum will be held under the theme Connecting our Future: Enhancing ACMECS Cooperation and Integration as a platform for the leaders and representatives from public and private sectors to network and exchange their views on trade and investment.
The Summit will adopt 2 documents including Bangkok Declaration which underlines the commitment of member countries to achieve sustainable cooperation that will achieve tangible outcomes, and ACMECS Master Plan (2019 2023) which focuses on the 3 main pillars (3S): Seamless Connectivity, Synchronized ACMECS, and Smart and Sustainable ACMECS, and will be used as a roadmap to enhance cooperation among members, as well as engage the future development partners.
The new elements to be highlighted this year include the leaders’ discussion during the Summit to explore possibilities of setting up an ACMECS Fund and an ACMECS Infrastructure Fund and Trust as possible modalities of funding for projects in the Master Plan, and the participation of development partners, representatives from non-member countries, international organizations, and private sectors in the Opening Ceremony and the ACMECS CEO Forum.
On the occasion of attending the events in Thailand, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith will hold bilateral meetings with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chano-cha.
CLMV Summit 9 will be held under the theme For Greater Economic Integration and Connectivity.
The leaders of CLMV are expected to review the implementation of the outcome of the 8th CLMVSummit in 2006 and discuss planned efforts for narrowing the development gap between CLMV and old ASEAN member states over the next two years and contributing to building ASEAN Community.
