Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh has urged Party and government organsiations, Lao Front for National Development, mass organsiations at all levels and the Lao people of all strata to take part in addressing challenges related to child malnutrition, enrolment rates at preschool and compulsory education levels, social media use among children, drug abuse and other issues that threaten and restrain the development of children.
Delivering a message to mark World Children’s Day – June 1 – on Monday, the premier noted that Party and government have always attached attention to child promotion and protection, as well as the prevention and tackling of violence against children.
“The Party and government organizations of all sectors have committed to implementing the Convention on the Rights of the Child through seizing opportunities to develop potentials of Lao children of all ethnics through 2030 and fulfilling Sustainable Development Goals,” said the premier.
He praised the National Commission for the Advancement of Women and the Commission for Mothers and Children at all levels, the Party and government organizations at central and local levels, the Lao Front for National Development, mass organisations, international organsiations, public and private business community and Lao people and children across the country for their active contributions to and engagement in improving mother and child affairs and making achievements.
He urged the Party and government organizations and relevant sectors to continue to uphold their responsibility for implementing mother and child related duties, address outstanding issues, and create favourable conditions for children to enjoy development, bright future, and quality growth thus helping them become competent human resources of the country and undertake the national protection and development cause according to the guidance of the Party.
The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Education and Sports, teachers and relevant authorities as well as Party committees to attach attention to ensuring safety at schools and educational facilities and organize examination in a timely manner.
He also called on the Lao people, civil servants, military and police officers, teachers and students and all sectors in the society to attach attention to adapting to new normal lifestyle and implementing preventive measures against Covid-19.
