The Lao Government kicked off a Population Data Management System Creation Project to summarise population and registration statistics, which will be a basic database for socio-economic development and national security planning.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Star Telecom Co., Ltd on June 9 signed an cooperation agreement on the Population Data Management System Creation Project for the fiscal year of 2017-2018.
Signatories to the document were Director of Population Administration Department, under Ministry of Home Affairs Thongchanh Syvilay and Director General of Star Telecom Co. Ltd Kao Ang Eun, witnessed by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Syphouk Vongphakdy, President of the Board of Star Telecom Co. Ltd Oulaha Thongvantha and relevant officials.
The Population Data Management System will help record personal information of the population. For instance, births, deaths, causes of death, marital status, divorce, names and family names and addresses, said Mr Thongchan, adding that a trial run of the system is expected to begin in three provinces of Luang Prabang, Champasak and Vientiane Capital next year.
