(KPL) The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Laos held the preparatory meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Environment for the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (PREP-AMME) in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 22 Aug.
The Director General of Department of Planning and Finance ASEAN Senior Officer on Environment for Laos, Ms Phakkavanh Phissamay said that the key objectives of this preparatory meeting are to gear up for the upcoming 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment, which will take place in Vientiane on August 23, 2023.
As we are aware, ASEAN Senior Officials on Environment (ASOEN) is a body that oversees the implementation of ASEAN Cooperation Frameworks on Environment and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint 2025. It is our mandate as ASOEN national focal points to play a strategic role in ensuring that this agenda is a success for the advancement of ASEAN regional environmental management and sustainable development, she said.
At this preparatory meeting, we will discuss and conduct a final review of the ASOEN report on the implementation and accomplishment of the seven environmental strategic priorities, particularly the report of the 34th of ASEAN Senior Officials on Environment. We will also go through the report from the Governing Board of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) on the progress and achievements of the ABC work program. Importantly, we will discuss and consent to the schedule of events and agendas for the 17th AMME in addition to considering and approving all outcome documents for endorsement and notification, she continued.
The Lao PDR has strong commitments to support the implementation of the ASEAN Cooperation Frameworks on Environment and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint 2025, Phakkavanh reaffirmed.
