(KPL) President Bounnhang Vorachit on Feb 16 visited the under-construction Xayaboury hydropower project in Xayaboury Province.
He was informed by Deputy Manager of Xayaburi Power Company Limited Anouphab Vongrakhone about the construction of the hydropower dam.
The dam is now 90 % built. Its construction kicked off in 2012 and is expected to be fully completed in 2019 when its commercial power generation will begin. The runoff-river dam has an installed generation capacity of 1,285 mw generated by 8 generators. These included seven 175-mw generators and one 60-mw generator.
The latter is for domestic power market. Most power generated by the dam will be sold to EGAT – the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. The deputy Manager told the visiting President that as for people affected by the US$ 4-billion project, the developer has paid them compensations, and provided them training on vocational skills on crop farming, animal husbandry, handicraft making, ODOP (One District One Product) production, and business running, among others.
