Provinces, Vientiane presented vehicles for use in disaster response

Gen Chansamone Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense and President of the National Disaster Management Committee has presented 18 six-wheel trucks and spare parts to representatives of authorities from 17 provinces and Vientiane to support disaster response efforts in the localities.

The handover took place on the sidelines of the annual meeting (2022) of the National Disaster Management Committee in Vientiane on Feb 17.

The package was part of a grant support from the Japanese government in line with the exchange of notes signed between the Lao PDR, represented by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, and the Japanese Embassy in Laos in December 2019.

According to the agreement, 20 4wd pickups, 18 6-wheel trucks, 10 4wd ambulances, three trucks mounted water filters, 300 household water filters, two forklifts, 30 community tents, 300 family tents will be provided by the Japanese government along with 200 truck covers, 100 rescue boats, 52 boat carriers and ten off-road motorcycles.

All the mentioned vehicles and equipment will be procured and presented to the Ministries of Health, National Defence, Labour and Social Welfare (warehouse KM 17) and provinces by the end of 2023.
