The Republic of Korea has provided humanitarian supplies to Laos to help the people affected by flash flooding in Sanamxay, Attapeu province.
The relief package included thousands of clothing items, 1,200 blankets and hygiene kits.
Representing the Korean government, Korean Red Cross and SK Engineering & Construction Co, the relief items have been delivered to the flooded area.
This is part of the humanitarian support from the Korean government. The government announced that it would dispatch a medical team to Laos and provide US$1 million emergency assistance.
The Korea Disaster Relief Team with medicine, mosquito nets and other medical supplies also arrived at the site and will provide medical support.
The aid supplies were handed over to Attapeu Governor Leth Sayaphone by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Lao PDR Sung-soon Shin on Jul 29. During the hand-over, the Korean ambassador expressed deep condolences and sympathy of the Korean people for the flood victims.
Koreans are praying for the quick recovery of the victims and rehabilitation of the area with all their heart. Not only the Korean government but also Korean private companies, NGOs and individuals are joining the efforts to provide assistance to the affected people. The Korean government will closely cooperate with the Lao government and support its efforts for emergency relief and rehabilitation, said the Korean ambassador.
