(KPL): The Republic of Korean railway workers will kick off a “work-to-rule” protest this week to demand higher pay and a bigger workforce, railway officials said Sunday.
According to Lao News Agency, the Korean Railway Workers’ Union announced its plan to initiate the work-to-rule industrial action starting Monday. This form of protest, where employees perform their duties strictly as outlined in their contracts without any voluntary extra effort, is expected to result in delays for some train services.
Delays are highly anticipated on subways in the capital Seoul area, while regular and KTX high-speed trains could also experience disruptions due to the slowdown. The Korea Railroad Corp. has confirmed the likelihood of these delays as a consequence of the union’s actions.
The union has further plans to escalate their protest by launching an indefinite strike early next month. Their demands include the addition of more workers to the workforce and a 2.5 percent increase in basic salary, as stated by union
representatives.
