Removal of BFP Bidding Chief Sought Due to Alleged Irregularities

Quezon City – The House Committee on Public Order and Safety has called for the removal of BFP Supt. Jan Garry Lunas, the head of a technical working group of the Bureau of Fire and Protection’s (BFP) bids and awards committee (BAC), due to alleged irregularities in the fire truck procurement process. The committee, chaired by Santa Rosa City Rep. Dan Fernandez, raised concerns after Lunas purchased a sports utility vehicle (SUV) registered to an employee of F. Cura Industries, a frequent winning bidder in BFP’s fire truck procurements.

According to Philippines News Agency, The Government Procurement Reform Act prohibits BAC members from engaging in communications with bidders during the evaluation process. During a House inquiry, Fernandez highlighted the potential compromise in the bidding process and requested a review and halt of the current bidding. BFP Chief Louie Puracan has announced a separate investigation into the controversy involving Lunas.
