A Lao food cooking contest under the theme Mok Kai Lath Dish (native chicken steamed in banana leaf), a Lao traditional dish, was held at the Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality on January 24.
The results of contest, one of the activities of the 12th Lao Food Festival, will be announced with prizes presented at Chao Anouvong Park, Vientiane Capital on January 25, said the Vice President of the Lao Business Women’s Association, Mrs Manoluck Daravong.
She said the food contest aims to develop the skills of the young people and select the best chefs from Laos to compete in the ASEAN arena and also exchange lessons and experiences on cooking.
The contest drew candidates from vocational skills institutes and other schools in Vientiane Capital.
The winners will be announced during the opening ceremony of the three day Lao Food Festival.
The winner will be awarded 3 million kip in cash (about US$370), the first runner-up 2 million kip, and the second runner-up 1.5 million kip.
