Retired Officials Required to Return Position Cars

Retired officials of senior leading positions are required to return their position cars to the government, said a government spokesperson quoting the recently released Prime Ministerial Decree No 15.

Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith endorsed Decree No 15 on January 5, 2017 stating that position cars are collective property that a state organisation has given to a senior leading official holding an administrative post to be used for official purposes, not for personal purposes.

The order states that any retiring senior officials should return their position car (sedan) to the Prime Minister’s Office. Meanwhile, senior officials of first through third class are required to return only one of the three cars they have been given. The remainders are subject to sale or are to be presented as gifts to retiring persons.

Senior leading officials of first class shall be given three cars including one sedan with an engine size of not more than 3,500cc, one SUV with an engine size of not more than 4,500cc, and one double cab pickup truck with a cylinder size of not more than 3,500cc as well as 500 litres of fuel per month.

Senior leading official of second class shall be given two position cars including one sedan with an engine size of not more than 3,000cc, one SUV with an engine size of not more than 4,500cc, and 350 litres of fuel per month.

Senior leading officials of third class shall be given two position cars including one sedan with an engine size of not more than 2,500cc, one pickup truck with an engine size of not more than 2,500cc, and 300 litres of fuel per month.

Senior leading officials of fourth class shall be given one sedan with an engine size of not more than 2,000cc and 200 litres of fuel per month.
