The Sagawa Foundation of Japan has donated a car lift and a tire changer via the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), worth 735 million kip (10 million or USD 91,000) to the State Land River Transport Enterprise.
The handover ceremony was held at the Don Chan Palace Hotel in Vientiane Capital on March 21, between the Director of Sagawa Foundation, Mr Hidekazu Matsumoto, and the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr Bounchanh Sinthavong.
“Since 2003, the Sagawa Foundation has provided assistance to the transport sector including transport trucks and technical maintenance support,” Mr Matsumoto said.
“To further technical assistance, we brought some machinery and some vehicle maintenance equipment aiming to strengthen the transportation sector in line with the ongoing growth of the socio-economic development each period,” he added.
Minister Bounchanh, representing the government, expressed thanks to the Sagawa Foundation of Japan for continuing to support the State Land River Transport Enterprise under supervision of the MPWT, which is a great contribution to the maintenance of the transportation equipment of the state enterprise.
The State Land River Transport Enterprise has been established for 30 years in order to develop transportation in the Lao PDR and to upgrade the Lao transport industry to international standards.
The State Enterprise is 100% dependent on the Lao government and functions under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
