Manila: The team from the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) dominated the inaugural “Katihan” Patrol competition in Bulacan, the Philippine Army (PA) announced on Wednesday.
The FSRR Team tallied an overall rating of 88 percent during the competition held from Sept. 25 to 30, PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said in a statement.
The 2nd Infantry Division Team came in second place with a score of 82.50 percent, followed by the 5th Infantry Division Team which garnered 82.20 percent.
Dema-ala added these teams received the Silver Medal Award for reaching overall scores of 80 percent to 89 percent and no less than 55 percent in any single assessed task.
The “Katihan” Patrol assessed the operational capabilities of 153 personnel from various PA units through a demanding 50-kilometer patrol exercise covering Bulacan’s rugged terrain.
Patterned after the UK’s Exercise Cambrian Patrol, the competition also prepared the Army’s tactical units to be at par with allied forces worldwide that participate in inter
national military training activities and exercises.
Incidentally, the FSSR teams that participated in the Cambrian Patrol garnered silver medals in 2019 and 2023.
The competition tested the participants’ skills in military briefing, close-quarter battle, prisoner of war handling, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense, reconnaissance patrol, river crossing, patrol base operations, call for fire procedures, land mine breaching and explosive identification, tactical combat casualty care, jungle raid and marksmanship skills.
The inaugural “Katihan” Patrol also assessed the operational capabilities of 153 personnel from various PA units through a demanding 50-kilometer patrol exercise covering Bulacan’s rugged terrain.
‘The diverse activities that transpired in our Katihan Patrol were not only integral to the development of our soldiers but have also served as a platform to test, evaluate and enhance the operational capabilities of our tactical units in various competencies. With the Katihan
Patrol’s constructive simulation of scenarios, we aimed to determine the teams’ readiness in support of our Land Defense Concept,’ PA vice commander Maj. Gen. Leodevic Guinid said.
