Secretary Kerry met today in Muscat with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said in Muscat, Oman.
Secretary Kerry and the Sultan reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the United States and the Sultanate of Oman.The Secretary expressed the United States’ deep appreciation for the helpful role Oman played in securing the recent release of U.S. citizens held in Yemen.
He also discussed with the Sultan the conflict in Yemen and the urgent need to find a durable political settlement to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people. They welcomed the Roadmap, including its sequencing, put forward by the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed to end the conflict. ?
Finally, the Sultan and the Secretary expressed their shared commitment to counter the spread of violent extremism, regionally and around the world.
The Secretary also met today with his counterpart, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah.
They discussed a range of regional issues of mutual concern, including the conflict in Yemen. Secretary Kerry thanked the Minister for Oman’s efforts to resolve the conflict, and he reviewed with the Minister their common vision for achieving that objective.
