Senator Imee Marcos files reelection bid

Manila: Reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on the second day of the filing period on Wednesday.

The presidential sister was accompanied by her mother, former First Lady Imelda, and sons Borgy and Michael at The Manila Hotel Tent City in Manila.

The senator and her family attended a Mass at the Our Lady of Remedies Parish (Malate Church) in Manila before proceeding to the filing venue.

‘Nanay ko excited. Hindi nakatulog yan. 5 a.m. natulog tapos 7 a.m. nasa simbahan na, nakikidasal. Inaasahan ko na yung swerte at wisdom niya ay mabigay sa akin (My mother was so excited that she was not able to sleep. She slept at 5 a.m. and by 7 a.m., she was already at the church. I hope her luck and wisdom would be passed to me),” she said in an interview after filing her COC.

The senator said she decided to withdraw from the administration’s senatorial slate to protect his brother, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., from critics.

‘Sabi ng kapatid ko, okay lang, susuportahan niya
pa din ako. Ako naman, hindi naman kami kailanman nag away, nagsasagutan. Ang amin lang, ito ay paniwala ko na higit ako makakatulong sa kanya kapag hindi siya nalalagay sa alanganin. Mas maigi na huwag mag alyansa (My brother said, ‘It’s okay.’ He will still support me. As for me, we never fought or got into a heated conversation. I just believe that I would be more helpful to him if he is not put in a difficult position. It is better not to join any alliance),’ she added.

Marcos is the 19th aspirant to file her candidacy for senator since the filing period began on Tuesday.

The COC filing period runs until Oct. 8.
