The Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs funded a three-week training course on Basic English Language for 26 Lao government officials from Feb 5-23.
The course, held at the Lao-Singapore Training Centre, was conducted by Mr Jeffrey Charles Kelly from Singapore’s A-Star Enrichment Services, a teaching program that teaches students to be more confident when speaking in large audiences.
Through a mix of lectures, interactive activities, case studies, and experiential simulation exercises, the course aimed to equip participants with a basic command of English in order to communicate more effective and contextually with their international associates.
The participants will also clearly shown skills they have to master in order to succeed at a basic level, in term of their overall understanding, speaking, writing, and oral capacities.
The course was conducted pursuant to the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI).
Under the IAI, Singapore conducts 20 to 30 courses a year at the Lao-Singapore training centre, focusing on areas of public governance, finance, urban management, hospitality and tourism, civil aviation, as well as IT skills and the English Language.
About 600 Lao officials are trained each year and more than 12,000 Lao government officials have benefited from the Singaporean ministry’s various training programmes under the Singapore Cooperation Programme since 1993.
