The Disaster Management Committee has said that the situation in Sanamxay district, Attapeu Province remains challenging though water level keeps subsiding.
Rescue workers worked to the full extent of their ability 24 hours to search for and rescue flood victims. Over 130 remain missing.
Rescuing can be done with extremely difficulty due to an extremely depth of mud of at least 50 cm. As a result it is impossible for many areas to be reached with vehicles or even boats. Modern rescue equipment are highly needed and the transport of food, drinking water, clothing to affected areas in which people are trapped faces difficulty, the committee said in its report dated Jul 27.
Almost 800 public and private sectors, domestic and foreign, keep sending relief items to the affected areas. Worth over 22.02 billion kip, the provided relief aid includes over 10 billion kip cash and consumer’s goods.
