Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Cathy Russell will host delegations from Japan and the Republic of Korea for the first-ever U.S.-Japan-Republic of Korea Women’s Empowerment Trilateral Forum at 8:30 a.m. on September 27 at the Department of State.
The forum, held in the Loy Henderson Auditorium, will focus on solutions to barriers that keep women in each country from fully participating in the economy and in politics. Government officials will also discuss coordinating efforts to promote adolescent girls’ education worldwide.
Each delegation will include government officials, members of civil society and the private sector, elected officials, and emerging women leaders.
After the forum, Ambassador Russell will deliver keynote remarks at the Advancing Women’s Economic Opportunities: Lessons from Japan, South Korea, and the United States event, co-hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Asia Foundation. Following her remarks will be a panel discussion between members of civil society and the private sector for each country. This event will be streamed live.

Media representatives may attend this forum upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
