Thai Police Raid Shop, Owner Suspected of Involvement in Xaysana Network

Thai narcotics and money laundering police on Thursday raided a shop owned by Akarakit Vorarojcharoendet, also known as Benz Racing, husband of actress Patt Napapa Tantrakul, for suspected involvement in the drug network of Xaysana Keophimpha, according to the Thai daily English paper Bangkok Post.

Mr Xaysana, an accused Lao drug kingpin, was arrested last month while he was leaving an arrival terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport from a trip to Phuket along with three other Lao friends.

The raid on Thursday morning was part of an operation codenamed “Chaiya Sayop Pairee 60/2”, targeted nine individual suspects and 40 spots throughout Thailand, 15 of them in Bangkok, the post said.

Police entered the shop about 8am for the search. Mr Akarakit was not there. A security guard told police he saw Mr Akarakit leave the premises on a motorcycle with a group of friends at about 1 am.

Pol Maj Gen Pornchai Charoenwong, Deputy Commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau of Thailand, said that according to information from an arrested suspect, Mr Akarakit had in his possession some cars and motorcycles suspected to have been acquired through drug dealings with the drug network of Mr Xaysana.

“Mr Akarakit is only a suspect until more evidence is acquired to confirm his involvement,” Pol Maj Gen Pornchai was quoted as saying by the post.
