Thanaleng Dry Port handles 100 containers in seven days

Some 100 cargo containers were handled at the newly opened Thanaleng Dry Port in Vientiane between Dec 13 and 19.

These included 95 containers of imported goods and five containers of export freight.

“Some 740 transit freight containers have also been transshipped at the port. They are mostly from China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Myanmar,” said Director General of the Thanaleng Dry Port Sakhone Philangam.

The Thananleng Dry Port is being built under the Vientiane Logistics Park project along with a logistic zone.

These facilities will help cut transport costs and create more jobs for Lao people, according to Mr Sakhone Philangam.

“The Thanaleng Dry Port is the first transnational transport hub of the Lao PDR. This logistic advantage will transform Laos into a transport hub thus adding more values to transport activities in the country,” said Mr Sakhone Philangam.

The Thanaleng Dry Port houses three cargo storage buildings with each capable of accommodating 24 container trucks. Meanwhile, more storage buildings are being constructed and once fully built, they will raise the port’s storage capacity to 124 container trucks.

The port also houses a container yard which can accommodate 14,500 containers.
