Director General of the Deaprtment of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh has confirmed that there are enough health facilities for treating Covid-19 patients but home isolation and home treatment will be used as the last resort if hospitals are overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients.

Home treatment and home isolation will be used in case hospitals are to be kept for treating severe cases of Covid-19 or Covid-19 patients with underlying medical conditions including diabetes, the elderly, according to Dr Rattanaxay.

“The Ministry of Health and Department of Health in every province have built many makeshift hospitals but we still fail to meet the requirements of the society especially with respect to providing prompt pick up service and patient bed allocation during time of emergency,” he said on Monday.

“Home isolation will be for C 1 – those who have close contact with the infected and C2 – those who have close contact with C 1. Meanwhile home treatment will be for Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms or asymptomatic patients,” said Dr. Rattanaxay.
