Almost 300 students from Provinces of Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Xieng Khuang competed in the first round of the English proficiency competition “TOEFL Junior Challenge 2016 and TOEIC Challenge Laos 2016”, on November 19.
The next “TOEFL Junior Challenge 2016” and “TOEIC Challenge Laos 2016” will be held in Vientiane Capital and the provinces of Champassak and Savannakhet on November 26.
“The purpose of the competition is to evaluate the English proficiency of students of secondary schools, give them a chance to compare themselves according to international standards, and prepare themselves to study overseas,” said Head of the Testing and Evaluation Division Mr Viengxay Soulachit.
This year is the first ever of the TOEIC Challenge Laos 2016 for children aged 16-22 years old. Almost 200 secondary school students represented Vientiane Province in the competition, said Head of the Educational Standards and Quality Assurance Centre (ESQAC) Ms Thipphaphone Vongxay.
The TOEFL Junior Challenge 2016 is valid for children aged from 11-15 years old, or who are studying in grades 6 to 9 at secondary schools across the country according to Ms Thipphaphone.
The 2nd round will be held on 17 December inProvinces of Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Xieng Khuang and on December 24 in Vientiane Capital and the provinces of Champassak and Savannakhet.
The application fee for the second round of the TOEFL Junior Challenge is 290,000 kip and 320,000 kip for the TOEIC Challenge Laos 2016.
