UK Grants US$ 4.5 Million Support For UXO Clearance Efforts In Laos

(KPL) The UK government has provided a grant support of US$ 4.5 million for efforts to remove unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the Lao PDR.

A Memorandum of Understanding on the UK’s support was signed in Vientiane on Jan 14 between Director General of the National Regulatory Authority for the UXO/Mine Action Sector in Laos, Mr Phoukhieo Chanthasomboun, and Country Director of the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) in Laos, Ms Blossum Gilmour with the UK Ambassador to Laos, Mr Hung Evans, in attendance.

Under the MoU, main activities including UXO clearance roving, surveys, and community awareness and risk education will be conducted in Nonghad, Khoun, Phaxay districts in Xieng Khuang Province and Yommalath, Boualapha districts in Khammuan Province.
