Laos’ capital city Vientiane has been declared as the 126th member of Tourism Promotion Organiztion for Asia Pacific Cities (TPO), Vientiane Mayor Sinlavong Khouthphaithoune told a press conference in Vientiane on Sep 9.
“On behalf of the Mayor of Vientiane, I hope that our TPO membership will assist us in improving the quality of tourism resources of the city in various fields. And, we expect that it could bring positive consequences with respect to the implementation of the government’s policy on tourism industry, such as job creation, income generation, graduation from least developed country status by the end of this decade,” said Mr Sinlavong Khoutphaithoune.
Vientiane, located in the center of Southeast Asia, has been the capital city of the Lao PDR for 460 years, or since 1560. The city is home to many attractive natural and historical sites, such as That Luang Stupa, Patuxai, Ho Phra Keo, Mekong riverside Park, Phu Pha Nang, Phou Khao Khauy, Mekong, the Nam Ngum river.
Newly opened tourist attraction Nampien Yorlapa is also located in Vientiane.
“As a new member of TPO, we have pledged to fully fulfill our obligations, and actively participate in joint activities with other members of the organization to make Laos’ tourism industry meet regional and international levels for the common benefit of the TPO member cities,” said Mayor Sinlavong Khoutphaithoune.
