Vientiane Mayor, Mr Atsaphangthong Siphandone and his delegation, on Monday went to monitor the flood-affected areas in the capital and dispatched relief materials to flooded victims.

Torrential rainfall over the past few days resulted in the widespread flooding of streets and houses in low-lying areas in Vientiane and several provinces. Severe affected areas were the villages along Road No 13 North, the villages of Nongneiw, Nongteng and Nonkeo, and the Lao-Oxy market in Sikhottabong district.

There are 29 flood-damaged areas in 25 villages with at least 839 families affected in Sikhottabong district.

Vientiane Mayor Atsaphangthong, directed the city administration and related sectors to pay close attention to monitoring and surveillance as well as fix the water drainage channels.
