Vientiane residents prohibited from celebrating Boun Khao Padabdin tomorrow

Lao Front for National Development of Vientiane has issued a notice banning residents in the capital city from celebrating Boun Hor Khao Padab Din or Boun Khao Padab Din at temples across the capital on Sep 6, 2021 in an effort to contain the outbreak of Covid-19, especially locally transmitted infections.

Issued on Sep 3, 2021, the notice does not prohibit monks from practicing daily routines within their temples.

The last 24 hours have witnessed the Lao PDR posting 172 new cases of Covid-19 with 56 cases classified as local transmissions.

Deputy Director of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay told a press conference today that the new infections included 116 imported cases including 68 reported in Savannakhet, 14 in Saravan, 13 in Vientiane, 12 in Champassak, five in Khammuan and four in Borikhamxay.

Laos has logged a total of 15,933 confirmed cases of Covid-19 including 16 deaths and 5,464 active cases since the first case was reported in the country in late March 2020.
