Vietnam’s President Visits Laos

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong arrived in Vientiane on Feb 24 for a two-day goodwill visit to the Lao PDR in response to the invitation of his Lao counterpart Bounnhang Vorachit.

At a bilateral meeting held soon after the welcome ceremony held in honour of the visiting Vietnamese, President Bounnhang highly valued the visit by his Vietnamese counterpart.

The first trip abroad by Nguyen Phu Trong in his new position as the top leader of the both Party and State, demonstrates Vietnam’s consistent policy of consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, close-knit ties and mutual trust between the two Parties and countries.

President Bounnhang noted that the visit by his Vietnamese counterpart constituted a significant contribution to enhancing the great relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, states and peoples of Laos and Vietnam.

Both top leaders highly valued the relations and cooperation between the two Parties and states over the past years and discussed directions for furture cooperation to lift the special relations and cooperation between the two countries to new heights.

Both sides spoke highly of the comprehensive and key achievements of their respective countries in implementing the resolutions of the latest national congresses of their respective Parties.

They expressed the belief that under the righteous leadership of the two Parties, the renovation causes in their respective countries will continue to bring about new achievements, raising the two countries firmly especially with respect to the implementation of the resolution of the 10th national congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the 12th national congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam so that preparations can be made for the coming national congresses of their respective Parties bringing ultimate success.

The two leaders expressed gratitude to each other for their mutual support and assistance both in the past time of national liberation or the current time of national protection and development.

The presidents also witnessed the signing of nine cooperation documents on financial cooperation, the construction and use of the Vientiane � Vung Ang railway, and electricity and mining project development.
