Actress and goddess Diane Kruger is currently in Italy attending fancy events at the 72nd Venice Film Festival where she is an official juror. The festival is still in full swing — Friday is the last day — and this is where we’ll be documenting all of her fantastic red carpet looks for your viewing pleasure, in reverse chronological order. Consider us unofficial jurors of a different nature.
Update: Kruger closed the film festival with a black lace Valentino Haute Couture gown (see above) that was sheer in some lights, but dense enough in color to appear opaque in others. She looked like a stunning gothic bride of cinema.

The tiers of lace pattern on the skirt layered on top of each other without gaining too much volume — all of which is complemented perfectly by the gathered design and high neckline, as well as the draped sleeves. It’s a show-stopping look to finish out the week.

Update: For another film premiere on Friday, Kruger chose a strapless Oscar de la Renta gown by Peter Copping embroidered with large black flowers from bust to knee. In the windy Venice weather, it almost looked like the petals themselves were caught in the breeze. Instead of pairing the monochromic dress with more traditional earrings, she chose a colorful chandelier pair from Irene Neuwirth — the type of unexpected choice Kruger always pulls off.

Kruger, who has claimed in the past that she doesn’t work with a stylist, said on her Instagram account last week that all her looks for the festival are “inspired by the wonderful Italian actresses from the fifties and sixties.” The wine colored Hugo Boss by Jason Wu dress she wore on Friday (see above) certainly channels the glamour of that era, with its off-the-shoulder cut and flamboyantly large bow at the waist. She modernized the look with loose, natural waves and by choosing off-white statin peep toe pumps in lieu of something more matchy-matchy.

For the festival’s opening dinner on Wednesday, she chose her sexiest look so far — a bright red Cushnie et Ochs pre-fall 2015 jumpsuit with cutouts around the rib cage. As Maura pointed out last week, she makes the body-hugging style look easy and comfortable, even though it’s probably neither of those things.

Earlier that day, Kruger hit the red carpet in a Prada dress with a caped back that our editors were divided on. The cape’s embroidered circles (made of glass and crystal) lend it a science fiction vibe that feels at odds with the long, sparkling, white silk-cigaline column dress. But Kruger hasn’t built her reputation as a style star by playing it safe, and we’re happy the highly visible nature of this festival didn’t dampen her willingness to take risks.

The dress looks totally different from the back. She smartly chose to wear her hair up so as not to compete with the cascading cape. A bit of a weird choice overall, but she wears it effortlessly.

At an earlier photo-call, Kruger wore a short and sweet Preen resort 2016 frock. Everything about this look is fantastic — the wide square collar with a dash of stripes on the shoulder, the embroidered flowers, the pockets, the black socks (!!!) peeking out of the black boots. And let’s not forget her flaxen locks and bejeweled earlobe. It’s “Girl With a Dragon Tattoo” meets “Heidi, Girl of the Alps.”
And finally, we have Diane Kruger arriving at the festival in a Thakoon resort 2016 bodysuit and skirt. The sexiness of the bodysuit is balanced by the voluminous flowing skirt and her casual accessories — flat sandals, simple sunnies and a Janessa Leone straw hat. Just another day in the effortlessly stylish life of Diane Kruger, where even de-boating is an opportunity to look devastatingly perfect.
We’ll update with more images as the week progresses!
